Introducing a new DEX-EE Series Robot - DEX-EE Chiral!   Check it out now!

Kings College kind of a December for Shadow Robot

It’s been a Kings College kind of a December for Shadow Robot!.

First, there was the new KCL Robotics Society which organised a panel session with Rich, Radhika Gudipati from ARIA, James Brown from NextGenRI, Jafar Uruç with a mystery startup, and Edwin Redhead from the UCL AI Nexus Labs.

We discussed the future of robotics, how new types of machine intelligence will influence robotics, waht the employment market looks like in the robotics industry, and had a lively Q&A with the audience. Apologies again to the Blockchain Society rep who got the shortest answer to their question.

Rich observed “Given the calibre and enthusiasm of the members of the Society, I think we can say that the future of robotics is in good hands, and those struggles back in the day to save Engineering at Kings were well won!”

Secondly, our collaborator Dr Shan Luo announced his new EPSRC Open Fellowship, https://www.kcl.ac.uk/news/prestigious-research-fellowship-awarded-to-kings-engineer-to-unlock-the-power-of-tactile-robotics

which we were very pleased to support in the application process. Shan has done some excellent work looking at tactile sensing for robot fingers, which is a critical step to getting the next generation of robots to have the same sort of dexterity as we humans have. We look forward to another five years of excellent results!

And thirdly, but by no means lastly, today is the first day of the 17th RITA conference, this year hosted by Kings College! Shadow Robot are one of the sponsors, and on Thursday Rich will be showing DEX-EE as part of the exhibition – if you’re around, come along and say hi!
