Harness the power of robotic touch

A range of sensors created in partnership with leading AI research units to empower robots with touch

Shadow Robot Hand with tactile sensor mapping

Add sensor touch to your robotic fingertips

To enable truly dexterous robotic manipulation, we developed a suite of advanced tactile sensors designed to replicate human-like sensitivity and precision.

These custom sensors provide detailed contact data, empowering our clients to push the boundaries of grasping and manipulation.

From high-resolution imaging sensors capable of visualizing contact surfaces in 3D, to magnetic Hall effect arrays offering real-time multi-axis force feedback, each sensor is engineered to deliver the nuanced input required for next-generation robotics.

Safe Handling: Sensors help prevent excessive pressure, allowing robots to safely handle delicate items across various industries.

Texture Recognition: let robots detect textures, enhancing sorting and quality control by adapting grip to object surfaces.

Adaptive Movements: Real-time feedback in embodied AI enables robots to adjust movements smoothly in dynamic or changing environments.

Improved Human Interaction: Embodied AI with touch sensors enhances human presence detection, promoting safer, coordinated human-robot collaboration in shared spaces.

Learning Data Collection: gather interaction data, training robots for optimal handling through machine learning algorithms.

Shadow Robot's Sensors

  • Imaging Sensors

    Imaging Sensors

A highly sensitive tactile sensor for dexterous manipulation, with an extremely high dynamic range, from 0.01N, up to 80N. It can resolve the shape of the surface / surfaces it is in contact with, and give a sense of the magnitude and direction of forces applied to it.

  • STF

    Shadow Tactile Fingertips

    STF

The STF contains 17 taxels each providing a 3D response, sensitive to both normal and tangential forces from about 0.2N to 20N.

  • Sensing

    Imaging & STF Sensors

    Sensing

Our sensors deliver a rich stream of tactile data. Detect contact events, detect applied force, localize the point of contact, and infer material properties.
